New Check-In Procedures for Non-Members

Check In Procedure Denver YMCA
December 16, 2025

At the YMCA of Metro Denver, the safety and well-being of every child, family and guest is our top priority. As part of our ongoing commitment to youth protection and community trust, we are piloting a new Spectator Pass Policy for non-members at the University Hills–Schlessman YMCA.

This policy aligns with national best practices in child safety and supports standards required for Praesidium Accreditation, a leading benchmark in child abuse prevention. While we are currently in a pilot phase and expect some troubleshooting over the next few weeks, this policy will ultimately be implemented across all YMCA of Metro Denver locations.

What’s Changing in January 2026

Beginning January 2026, all non-member spectators and participant guests attending YMCA programs will be required to:

  • Secure a FREE 90-Day Spectator Pass
This pass allows access only to designated program areas (such as the gym, pool or studio where the program is taking place). It does not grant access to YMCA equipment, Adventure Zone, open swim or other facility areas.
  • Read and sign the YMCA Universal Waiver
  • Check in and check out at every visit

These steps help ensure that everyone in our facilities is known, welcomed and accounted for—creating a safer environment for all.

How to Get Your FREE 90-Day Spectator Pass

You can complete most of this process in advance to save time on your first visit.

  • Secure your FREE 90-Day Spectator Pass online or at any YMCA Front Desk.
  • Log into your YMCA account and complete the YMCA Universal Waiver.
  • On your first visit, bring a valid photo ID and have your photo taken at the Front Desk.
  • Review and follow the YMCA Code of Conduct and all posted safety policies.

  • No problem. You can always check in and out at the Front Desk with assistance from a YMCA team member.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to renew my 90-Day Spectator Pass if I participate in programs longer than 90 days?
Yes. You will need to renew your Spectator Pass every 90 days. Waivers are valid for one year from the date signed, so you may not be prompted to re-sign until your waiver expires. Continue checking in and out using the YMCA mobile app.

If I bring a friend or family member with me, do they need a Spectator Pass?
Yes. Every individual visiting the YMCA must secure their own Spectator Pass and complete a waiver. First-time visitors will still need to stop at the Front Desk for a photo and check-in.

Does this policy apply to YMCA members?
No. YMCA members complete waivers when they join and should continue following normal check-in and check-out procedures. Members may be asked to update their photo if one is not current.

Where can I review the YMCA waiver and policies?
You can find Denver YMCA policies, procedures and the waiver online.

If I visit multiple Denver YMCA branches, do I need a Spectator Pass for each location?
No. Once completed, your Spectator Pass is valid at all YMCA of Metro Denver locations.

We appreciate your cooperation and support as we continue to uphold the highest standards of safety, care and accountability for our YMCA community.
